A Step Ahead Scholarship

A Step Ahead Scholarship

By removing barriers to voluntary, long-acting, reversible birth control and providing educational programming, resources, and funding, the A Step Ahead Foundation gives women the ability to achieve their life goals and become self-sufficient.

A Step Ahead Scholarship

The Step Ahead Scholarship program is dedicated to recognizing and providing financial support for promising young women from the greater Memphis community who are committed to public service in the areas of academic success and responsible, productive life planning. These young women must come from a family with a history of giving back to the community.

Purpose of the Scholarship

The scholarships are provided as part of A Step Ahead’s objective to break down barriers for women so they can concentrate on furthering their education and achieving greater achievement in their personal and professional lives.

These barriers include the burden of debt that comes with attending college as well as the prospect of becoming a mother prior to being able to graduate and launch a professional career.

Every little step matters, whether it’s getting internship experience in the field you want to work in, opening a savings account, or meeting with a financial aid counselor to discuss the various options for repaying student loans.

Scholarship Eligibility

This scholarship is available to those between the ages of 16 and 26. To be eligible, you must be a graduating senior in high school or a first-year student, sophomore, or junior in college.

The foundation reserves the right to verify the date you graduated high school and/or your college enrollment. Each student is only allowed to submit their work once every academic year.

What is the Scholarship Amount?

Since the program’s inception in 2014, remarkable young women from the Memphis community have been presented with awards totaling $1.5 million.

This year, several scholarships worth $2,000 each will be offered. The quality of the application, as well as the assessed level of financial need, determines award amounts.

Each scholarship is given out every year, although recipients are strongly encouraged to keep their grades up to par and to reapply for the award the following year if necessary.

Scholarships are only given out for a maximum of two years.
