Ida C Koran Scholarship

The Ida C. Koran Student Aid Program was set up to help the dependent children of Ecolab Inc., employees and retirees. It helps them pay for tuition and other costs of postsecondary education. This includes a vocational, trade, or technical school, community college, or university.

Ida C Koran Scholarship

The Ida C. Koran Trust pays for the scholarship program. This is operated by Scholarship America.

Scholarship America is the largest company in the United States that designs and runs scholarship and other education support programs. It supports corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals.

Each program’s sponsor decides who is eligible. Then, Scholarship America’s evaluation team reviews the applications of those who are eligible. Awards are given to people of any race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, age, gender, disability, or national origin.

Requirements for Applicants

Ida C. Koran Scholarship applicants must fulfill one of the following requirements:

  • A dependent child of a full-time or part-time employee of Ecolab Inc.
  • An Ecolab subsidiary, including International, who has worked for the company for at least one (1) year as of April 20, 2023.
  • A disabled worker’s dependent who is eligible for disability benefits;
  • A dependent child of an Ecolab retiree, as identified by Ecolab’s Human Resources department
  • A dependent child of an employee who works in a business acquired by Ecolab Inc. or a subsidiary of Ecolab and has worked there for at least a year, full-time or part-time

And additionally, they must be one of the following:

  • High school seniors
  • Students in their last year of upper secondary school
  • Current undergraduates,
  • High school or upper secondary school graduates who want to go to an accredited school full-time.

U.S. Bank or Elavon employees who are chosen as recipients cannot get the loan portion of the award.

What is Required to Apply?

You must submit the following items with your application:

  • A recent and comprehensive academic transcript. Grades are not accepted. Transcripts must include the student’s name, the school’s name, grades, and credit hours for each course and term taken.
  • If earned, an upper secondary school diploma or certificate (International applicants only).
  • The outcomes of examinations (International applicants only).
  • Translations of all non-English documents into English.

If you are a U.S. student, you must submit official copies of your SAT or ACT results. These scores are not necessary if you are uploading a college transcript.

The deadline to apply will be on February 21, 2023, at 3:00 pm CT. One online recommendation form must be filed on your behalf by 3:00 pm Central Time on February 24, 2023.

Your application is incomplete if you do not submit all essential information electronically.

How are Scholarships Chosen?

Scholarship awardees are chosen according to the following:

  • Academic record
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • A statement of career goals and objectives
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances
  • An online recommendation.

After identifying recipients, the amount is given based on financial needs. To qualify for an award, candidates must demonstrate financial need.

Student applicants attending a community college or a vocational-technical school are considered separately.

Restrictions of this Scholarship

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) mandates that the Ida Koran Trust provide aid to no more than 25 percent of applicants. The more applications the Ida C. Koran Student Aid Program for Children of Ecolab Inc. Employees receive the more awards we are able to provide.

Scholarship America is in charge of determining the awardees. No Ecolab or Ida C. Koran Trust officer or employee ever participates in the selection process. All candidates agree to abide by the final decision.

In mid-to late-May, applicants will be notified by email. Not every program candidate will be chosen as a recipient. Each year that they meet the eligibility standards, non-recipients may reapply to the program.

Recipients must provide current official transcripts and financial information as requested.

Scholarship awardees owe neither Ida C. Koran Trust nor Ecolab Inc. any obligation. Loan recipients have no duty to Ecolab Inc. but are required to repay the loan principal and interest to the Ida C. Koran Trust in accordance with the loan terms.

Awards will be distributed yearly (as outlined below) for as long as the student remains eligible, up to a maximum of four academic years. In order to receive disbursements, recipients must demonstrate continued eligibility each academic year. Grants may only be used for undergraduate education-related expenses.

Scholarships will be awarded to inhabitants of countries other than the United States and Puerto Rico.

The awards for United States residents will be a combination of scholarships and loans. Recipients have the option of accepting or declining the loan. The awardees may still receive the scholarship if the loan is denied. Loans do not collect interest while the beneficiary is enrolled full-time at a qualifying institution. This also applies for twelve months afterward. After twelve months interest accrues, and monthly principal and interest payments start.
