Dove Scholarships

There are multiple Dove scholarships available for students. If you’re not sure which one you’re interested in, or eligible for, don’t worry! Here we’ll cover all the DOVE scholarships we know of so you can find the one that’s the best fit for your situation!

Jerry L. Dove Scholarship

The Jerry L. Dove Scholarship is for South Charleston High School graduating students. Applicants must demonstrate a high level of academic potential and moral character. Additionally, they must be committed to the values of fairness and justice. The Jerry L. Dove Scholarship provides eligible applicants with $1,450. The application deadline for this award is February 1, 2023.

To qualify for this scholarship, you:

  • Must be an undergraduate student
  • Must attend a university, two-year or four-year college.
  • Must currently be a high school student
  • Are required to study full-time

Diversity of Views & Experience Fellowship (DOVE) Scholarship 

The DOVE scholarship is an acronym for The Diversity of Views and Experiences (DOVE). This Fellowship Program aims to aid graduate research programs in their pursuit of research and creative excellence. They accomplish this by promoting diverse perspectives, experiences, and ideas. They recruit and support a diverse group of academically excellent students. This includes economic, racial, ethnic, and gender diversity.

The DOVE fellowship awards a yearly tuition stipend of $25,000. This counts for up to 14 credits per semester. It also provides subsidized health insurance through the Graduate Assistant Health Plan for up to one calendar year. Other benefits include a minimum grant of $1000 for research and travel to conferences. It also covers the GSDO Summer Institute (which includes a $4,000 stipend and health insurance coverage).

So, who is eligible?

Eligibility for DOVE

The following are the eligibility requirements:

  • Incoming and prospective master’s and doctoral students in research-based programs.
  • Included among the eligible graduate programs are research-based master’s and doctoral programs.
  • U.S. citizens, U.S. permanent residents, prospective students lawfully present in the U.S. on a non-temporary basis, and Minnesota Dream Act students.
  • Applicants to graduate programs entering the University of Minnesota for the first time in 2023-24.

Applicants who already possess a terminal degree are ineligible.

DOVE Recipient Requirements

If selected, the recipient must be admitted as a degree-seeking student to the graduate research program by the Fall semester of 2023. There will be at least two (2) DOVE Fellowships awarded to McNair Scholars.

The 2023-24 application window opens on October 17, 2022, and closes on February 8, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. (noon) Central Standard Time (CST).

Arthur Dove Scholarship Application

The Arthur Dove Scholarship is awarded to Hobart and Willaim Smith Colleges students who submit 5-10 pieces of creative work. This portfolio must demonstrate a refined understanding of studio art, architecture, or photography.

The HWS Arts faculty evaluates each portfolio and makes recommendations. Then, arts scholarships will be awarded. Awards vary between $3,000 and $20,000. Students who receive any other merit designation will receive a $3,000 art scholarship award.

Candidates for Early Decision I/Early Action must submit a SlideRoom portfolio application by November 15. If you are an Early Decision 2 candidate, you must submit your portfolio by January 15. If you are a candidate for a regular decision, your portfolio is due on February 1.
