Students interested in expanding their knowledge and understanding of how Cross-Connection Control and Backflow Prevention contribute to safe drinking water are encouraged to enter the ABPA Harrington-Arthur Memorial Scholarship Essay Competition. The winner of this competition will receive a scholarship

The process of backflow prevention is intended to prevent dangerous bacteria, chemicals, and other harmful agents from entering the local water supply systems. These bacteria and chemicals can sometimes be fatal.

Backflow Prevention procedures are essential to guarantee that the drinking water delivered to your residence, place of education, or place of business is just as clean and risk-free as it was when it first left the water treatment plant.

Essays must be between 700 and 1,200 words. Please visit the website of the scholarship giver for further information or to submit an application.

One scholarship in the amount of $1,500 will be awarded in the winner’s name and either given to a recognized state-sponsored, tax-deferred 529 Investment National College Savings Program, to the winner’s established 529 Investment Educational IRA (or the Canadian equivalent) or an accredited school in the winner’s name.

The scholarship will be awarded in the winner’s name. The scholarship cannot be transferred to another recipient.

This scholarship opportunity is available to any high school student (those who will be between the ages of 13 and 18 on December 31, 2021) who is a legal resident of either the United States or Canada. Education of the general public about the importance and necessity of active local backflow prevention programs is the primary objective of the ABPA. They want to achieve this by controlling cross-connections so that the drinking water is safe.

The group’s mission is to educate people about the need to prevent backflow as a critical step in ensuring that drinking water is safe to consume.

The deadline for application for this scholarship program is on March 15, 2023.
