This scholarship is for students who need financial assistance and are enrolled in vocational programs that prepare them for a specific type of job.
The headquarters is located in Honolulu, Hawaii. HLSP’s mission is to help kōkua native Hawaiians who are committed to achieving their potential for themselves, their families, and their communities.
If you receive this scholarship, you can put it towards the payment of tuition and fees, books, and any other necessary tools or uniforms for your program.
What are the Eligibility Requirements?
To satisfy the eligibility requirements, you must have the following:
- Be of Native Hawaiian Ancestry
- Be a resident of the state of Hawaii.
- Received a High School Diploma or equivalent
- Not currently receiving any Kamehameha Schools financial aid for post-secondary education
- Maintain a 2.0 or higher grade point average (GPA)
- Be enrolled at least half time in a vocational degree (AA or AS – Associates Degree) or certification program in one of the approved educational institutions in Hawai’i listed on the application.
- They do not provide assistance with Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Professional Degrees.
Tips for Applying to This Scholarship
Again, applicants must be enrolled in a vocational or technical education program. Their field must have the potential to generate a “living wage”.
Therefore, students who plan to earn a degree in Liberal Arts or who are currently enrolled in prerequisite courses do not qualify.
It’s strongly recommended you choose a major of study in order to become eligible for additional support and services.
