101st Airborne Scholarship 

Since World War II, the Screaming Eagle Foundation has provided family members of their members with scholarships totaling more than $50,000 annually. In this article, learn a bit more about the 101st Airborne Scholarship and how to apply for it. 

101st Airborne Scholarship

Family members of those who were part of the 101st Airborne, dating back to World War II, are eligible for scholarships totaling more than $50,000 annually.

The goal of the 101st Airborne Division Association and Screaming Eagle Foundation scholarship program is to assist students who have the potential to become one of the country’s assets. Living or deceased, the applicant’s parents, grandparents, or spouse must be/had been regular members of the 101st Airborne Division Association. The dollar amount and number of total awards vary.

Eligibility, career goals, academic record, and knowledge gained from the letter asking for consideration and letters of recommendation are the primary factors to be considered when evaluating and rating applications.

Additional eligibility criteria include:

• The applicant’s parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, husband or wife are (or were, if deceased) regular or life members (not associate members) of the 101st Airborne Division Association.
• Chappie Hall Scholarship – Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 required.
• Al & Willamary Viste Scholarship – Applicant must maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.75 (transcript required). The applicant must be an upper-class (third or fourth year) or graduate student in a medical or science-related field.
• The applicant may neither be enrolled nor accepted at the United States Military Academy, the Naval Academy, the Air Force Academy, or the USCG Academy.
• Must be an undergraduate student
• Must enroll at a university, four-year college, two-year college, or vocational-technical institution.
• Required to study full-time

In May of 1945, the 101st Airborne Division Association was founded on the battlefields of Europe in World War II by the Screaming Eagles, who wished to ensure that soldiers who fought while wearing the Screaming Eagle patch would not lose contact with one another.

It is a non-profit fraternity for soldiers and veterans that is non-political and non-religious. Monthly gatherings of Eagles are held by the association’s chapters across the nation. Since its activation in 1942 at Camp Claiborne, Louisiana, thousands of men and women have served in the renowned 101st Airborne Division of the United States Army. These soldiers have served in numerous locations around the world.
