Alpha Delta Pi, founded on May 15, 1851, is the world’s oldest college women’s secret society. Alpha Delta Pi was founded at Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia, which was the first college in the world to grant degrees to women. Its origin story is remarkable. And it all began with the dream of a young girl.
Eugenia Tucker left her family home in Laurens County, Georgia, at the age of sixteen to attend Wesleyan College. Before the end of her first year, she would found the world’s first sorority. Tucker valued her education greatly; she founded Alpha Delta Pi to motivate and support her fellow classmates in their studies. Today, Alpha Delta Pi continues Tucker’s vision as the organization supports women in their college educations.
