Carrington Philbert Scholarship
This scholarship is in memory of Malcolm Carrington and Sherwin Bridgewater’s grandparents. Their grandparents instilled in their grandchildren the importance of education and pursuing knowledge, no matter the circumstances.
The Carrington-Philbert Scholarship program will offer a minimum of one (1) one-time scholarship for $2500 to a student entering their first year of study at a college or university in the United States. African-American high school seniors who have expressed an interest in attending either a two- or four-year college or university are eligible to apply for the Carrington-Philbert Scholarship.

This scholarship awards a one-time payment of $2500, however, it is not renewable in subsequent years. The overall number of awards made available by this scholarship can change from year to year. It depends on the level of funds that are made available as well as the number of students who can meet their requirements.
Scholarship Requirements
The potential recipient of this scholarship must demonstrate that they meet all of the following criteria in order to be considered:
- All applicants must be African American.
- Applicants must have a firm commitment to enrolling in either a two-year or four-year college in the United States.
- The month of September is reserved for the distribution of scholarship awards. The application must be received no later than May 1 to be considered. Applications received after the deadline will not be considered.
- In addition to the application itself, applicants must provide a letter of recommendation written by a teacher or principal.
- Winners will have until August 31 to submit proof that they are enrolled in the program.
- Post your essay, as well as your photo, recommendation, and transcript, on the scholarship’s website.
