The James M. Cox Scholarship was created in 1996 to support students from eastern Nebraska attending Metropolitan Community College. The award may be applied to tuition, fees, and books.
James M Cox Foundation Scholarship
Students attending Metropolitan Community College who are residents of eastern Nebraska are eligible to apply for financial support through the James M. Cox Scholarship.
James M. Cox, the organization’s founder, passionately believed in giving back to the communities we serve. The James M. Cox Foundation is one approach to ensuring that his beliefs continue to be present. The foundation provides charitable assistance to non-profit groups in communities where Cox Enterprises conducts business.
Who is Eligible?
The foundation awards a total of $10,000 in scholarships to students in Nebraska who have demonstrated a dire financial need and will be enrolling in an educational program at a Nebraska-based institution of higher learning during the academic year. Particular consideration is given to students from the eastern third of the state.
Requirements for the Application
In order to be considered for a scholarship award, you are required to fulfill the following requirements:
- Students who live in the eastern one-third of the state of Nebraska will be given preference over those who live in other parts of the state.
- Show that you are in need of financial aid;
- Show that you have what it takes to be successful in your chosen field of study academically;
- Attend a higher institution of higher learning that is located in the state of Nebraska;
- Fill out the Application and Sign It;
- Include a copy of your certified high school transcript;
- Include a minimum of two recommendation letters written by teachers, advisors, or counselors;
- Include an essay on your educational commitment that is no more than one page long and discusses the influence that getting a higher education will have on your long-term employment goals.
- Other concerns, challenges, or mitigating circumstances pertaining to the family, such as a financial burden, medical bills, the passing of a parent, and/or disability, are considered during the decision-making process.
Important Application Dates
Applications received by or before February 15 are considered in April, and responses are given on May 15. Applications received by or before June 15 are considered in August, and responses are given on September 31. Applications received by or before October 15 are considered in December, and responses are given on December 31.
